Question:
I have a wrinkled neck with folds of loose skin. I think a neck lift would help me tremendously. Where are the incisions located for this? How long does complete recovery take? I am 62 and in excellent health.
Answer:
Well, a traditional necklift has one incision under the chin and one behind each ear. The one under the chin is used to tighten the neck muscles, and the ones behind the ears to redrape the skin. I will say, however, that most 62 year old women are not candidates for a traditional necklift. They are better served with a facelift because of the excessive skin laxity.

What is the difference between a neck lift and neck liposuction and when is one better than the other?
Answer:
A necklift is a procedure done to rejuvenate the neck. The procedure is usually performed on patients in their mid forties or in patients that have had a previous facelift and want the neck re-tightened. It involves tightening the neck muscles through a small incision just behind the chin and then removing any excess skin through small incisions behind the ears. Neck liposuction is performed on young patients that have skin with good elasticity. When done on patients with poor elasticity, the result can poor, as the skin may not contract.
