How is the actual forehead lift procedure performed?
There are different techniques for the forehead lift, with the main difference between them being the placement of the incision. Incisions may be placed just behind the natural hairline, directly at the hairline, or within the midforehead creases. With the endoscopic approach, several small incisions are placed just behind the hairline, requiring more surgical time though the procedure is less invasive. Once the incisions are made, loose forehead skin is tightened, excess skin is removed, and the muscles of the forehead may be altered or released. The incisions are then closed.

For the endoscopic approach, several short incisions are made within the hairline.

Swelling can be minimized by using cold compresses and keeping the head elevated as much as possible. Prolonged bruising can be camouflaged with makeup. Numbness and itching at the incision site is common, though this is minimized with the endoscopic approach. Bandages, if used, are typically removed within one to three days.

The recovery time typically does not exceed two weeks and many patients find that they can return sooner than that.
