I am 50 and beginning to research facelifts. What is the difference between a PSP and MACS lift, and how long do the results from each last?
Answer:
I think that an educated patient makes a great patient and I commend you for that. There are several types of facelift techniques, and these are 2 of them. The PSP is a SMAS plication facelift. This procedure involves the bunching together of the deeper facial tissues. The bunching of the tissues together causes a lift of the face. The skin is then re-draped. The neck muscles may or may not be tightened during the procedure. This is a very common technique used to perform the facelift procedure. The MACS lift is another technique used to perform a mini-lift. It provides a lift by running a suture through the deep facial tissues and then anchoring it to the facial bony skeleton. This procedure is very popular with some surgeons who claim it achieves very good results. The average facelift lasts about 7 to 10 years. What I tell patients is that while they will continue to age, they will always look 10 years younger. I personally do not perform either type of facelift procedure. Instead, I perform the deep plane facelift procedure. I think that you should consult with several doctors and see which one you feel comfortable with. Make sure that they show you plenty of before and after pictures. Good luck!
