Discover Balanced Beauty with Chin Augmentation Benefits
Chin augmentation is a transformative procedure that goes beyond mere aesthetic enhancement. It’s about creating facial harmony, balancing proportions, and enhancing self-confidence. This procedure tailors the chin to fit seamlessly with your facial features, offering a more defined and proportionate look that complements your natural beauty.
Mentoplasty, also known as chin augmentation, is a procedure performed to improve the facial profile. Some patients have a receding chin which can be improved by using an implant to permanently project the chin forward. Mentoplasty is sometimes combined with other procedures, such as rhinoplasty, to further improve facial balance.

The Chin Augmentation Procedure
Dr. Bustillo performs the mentoplasty procedure through a small incision in the chin crease. Through this incision, an anatomical implant is placed. The anatomic implants are tapered and blend with the jaw, to give a natural contour.
The incision heals very well and will not be perceptible once it heals. Dr. Bustillo does not place the implant through the mouth because the implants that can be placed through this incision are not anatomic implants. These non-anatomical implants that are placed through the mouth are very small and do not taper, meaning they do not blend with the jaw and can give an unnatural appearance.

Anesthesia Options for Mentoplasty
The chin augmentation procedure can be performed under local anesthesia when done as a stand-alone procedure or when combined with submental liposuction (to remove fat under the chin). If it is combined with a rhinoplasty or a facelift, it is usually done under general anesthesia.

Chin Implant Recovery Timeline
Most patients are able to return to work 5 days after chin augmentation. Typically, there is mild swelling and minimal to no bruising.
The patient returns home the same day of the surgery. The patient returns to the office five days after the procedure to have the small stitches removed from under the chin. Patients can usually return to school or work that day and can resume exercise three weeks after the procedure.
Chin Augmentation Risks and Complications
The possible complications that can occur with chin augmentation are infection, malposition (placed wrong), and decreased sensation of the lower lip.
Infections are very rare. If an infection occurs, the patient is treated with antibiotics. If the infection persists, the implant is removed and replaced six weeks later.
Malposition is rare and is treated by repositioning the implant. The loss of sensation that can occur is temporary and usually resolves in 4 weeks.
