Why Lip Augmentation?
Some people are born with naturally thin lips. For others, aging causes lip tissue to deflate, resulting in thin lips and wrinkles around the entire mouth. Those who suffer from small, pursed, or thin lips may spend excessive time and money to achieve fuller lips without visiting a professional.
Many people report using expensive cosmetics and creams to achieve temporary results but ultimately continue searching for a longer-lasting solution. Lip augmentation is an excellent option as the procedure can be performed on your lunch break and the results typically last between six to eight months.
About Lip Augmentation
Dr. Bustillo performs lip augmentation with topical anesthesia using a hyaluronic acid filler. The goal is to make the lips fuller but keep them looking natural. Less is more when it comes to lip augmentation. We do not like duck lips in our office!
The exact type of filler that will be used depends on how much augmentation the patient desires. In some cases, a very thin filler is used to just gently fill the lips. Extremely thin lips may require a thicker filler.
The lip augmentation procedure is done in the office and takes about 15 minutes. The numbing cream is applied and allowed to work for about 10 minutes.
The injections are then administered and an ice pack is placed on the lips to help prevent swelling. While most patients do not bruise from this, it can happen. For this reason, we advise patients to do this ahead of any important event.
The results last about 3-4 months depending on the filler. The reason it does not last longer is that the lips are in constant motion and this tends to break down the filler faster than when it is injected into the cheek, for example.

Who is a Candidate for Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is safe and appropriate for most patients who want fuller lips with better contours. However, patients must not have any allergies to the fillers used. They should also be adults in good health with realistic expectations.
Risks of Lip Augmentation
There are very few risks associated with lip augmentation. Allergic reactions can occur, especially when a dermal filler containing lidocaine is used. This is rare, however.
Patients may experience minor bruising and swelling after the treatment. These side effects are mild, however, and should subside quickly.
