Full and curvaceous lips are a universal sign of beauty. While some people are born with naturally plump lips, many are not. In addition, as lips age, they tend to thin over time. Lip augmentation is a non invasive procedure done in the office that offers patients beautiful results.
Dr. Bustillo performs lip augmentation with topical anesthesia using a hyaluronic acid filler. The goal is to make the lips fuller but keep them looking natural. We do not like duck lips in our office! The exact type of filler used depends on how much augmentation the patient desires. In some cases, when a very thin filler is used to just gently fill the lips while very thin lips may require a thicker filler.
The lip augmentation procedure is done in the office and takes about 15 minutes. The numbing cream is applied and allowed to work for about 10 minutes. The injections are then placed and an ice pack is placed on the lips to help prevent swelling. While most patients do not bruise from this, it can happen. For this reason, we advise patients to do this ahead of any important event. The results last about 3-4 months depending on the filler. The reason it does not last longer is because the lips are in constant motion and this tends to breakdown the filler faster then when injected in the cheek, for example.
