It seems as if the British media have found another candidate with the distinction of having the “perfect nose.” This time it is Scarlett Johansson, and according to a report in the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper, she joins a select group who share the perfect nose.
The fact that there is such a notion isn’t surprising, nor is the fact that there is research to support the findings. But what might make readers sit up and take notice is that there is a specific number attached to perfection.
According to the Daily Mail,“measured from the lip up, the optimum angle of rotation at the nasal tip … should be 106 degrees to enhance a woman’s looks.”
This means that a ladies’ nose should turn up by 106 degrees. But what about a man’s nose? Masculinity, apparently, can be measured by a nose that is rotated less than 90 degrees. The full study has been published online in the JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery Journal, and, commenting on his work, the researcher said, “in the past there was a stigma attached to having surgery on the nose, largely because they all ended up looking the same.”
It’s interesting to shine light on what is ostensibly the formula for an attractive nose, but it takes a surgeon such as Dr. Bustillo to create a nose that is in keeping with, and balanced by, the facial features of each individual patient.
In fact, it’s what he stakes his reputation on, which is why he specializes in facial cosmetic and plastic surgery. He spends half of his surgical time on nasal surgery. As it says on his incredibly informative rhinoplasty website, Dr. Bustillo is known for providing the most natural and conservative rhinoplasty results.
Beautiful though they may be, asking for the nose of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, or Ms. Johansson, and getting it, is unlikely to produce the result that the patient expects. It’s all about making sure that the face is in harmony, and realizing that the perfect nose for you may not be the same as for someone else.
Surgeons spend their time studying various faces to become familiar with the shape and balance of all ethnicities and their differences and similarities. This helps better create the perfect nose for each and every client.
Dr. Bustillo goes a step further on his revision rhinoplasty site, where he talks about a return to normalcy, with the implication being that whatever he does, he will always favor a natural result over some idea of perfection. That’s also one thing that patients writing on review sites also agree on: a nose will always have flaws, even after surgery. It’s best to accept that improvement and a natural result beat perfection every time.
If nobody notices that you’ve had surgery, then that is probably the finest endorsement of your surgeon’s talent, and what all great surgeons aspire to. That’s not to say they won’t react differently to you, because they probably will, but they won’t know why.
From his Miami, Florida practice, Dr. Bustillo conducts over 300 nasal surgeries each year, always taking care to create the perfect nose for each individual client. To find out more, his team can be reached on 305-663-3380 to arrange an initial consultation. During this phase, Dr. Bustillo will provide computer images of the likely result and discuss the shape that he feels would best fit the patient’s face. To get an idea of past successes, prospective patients are encouraged to look through the before and after photos in the rhinoplasty gallery.
